ATLANTA, GA:  Macey Ley announced today that her sculptural artist book For It Might End was selected for exhibition at the The Book as Art 4.0: Boundless, an annual exhibition sponsored by the Decatur Arts Alliance, the DeKalb Library Foundation, and Georgia Center for the Book.

The fourth annual The Book as Art exhibition showcases a variety of artist books – from handmade and lusciously tactile to linear and informative, abstract and questioning to sculptural and monumental. This juried show celebrates the book with a wildly varied collection of inventive and spectacular work that challenges expectations.

Jurors include Andrew Glasgow, retired executive director of the American Craft Council; Julie Leonard, bookbinder, artist, and faculty member at the University of Iowa Center for the Book; and Cynthia Delaney Lollis artist and professor of printmaking and book arts at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia.

The artist books will be on display in the Periodicals Gallery of the Decatur Library August 19 – September 30, 2016. An evening gala reception will be held at the Gallery August 26. The time has yet to be announced. The gallery is located in Decatur Branch of the DeKalb County Library at 215 Sycamore St., Decatur, GA.

The Belt of Orion's Never Wife - detailATLANTA – August 30, 2015

The Decatur Arts Alliance (DAA) is honoring Macey Ley’s The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife with first place prize at The Book as Art 3.0: No Jacket Required, a featured exhibition of the AJC-Decatur Book Festival in Decatur, Georgia. The exhibition – showcasing artist books from more than 30 U.S.-based artists – offers new interpretations of the ancient concept of books and questions 21st century book form and format. Jurors include Margot Ecke, Athens, GA; Arlyn Ende, Sewanee, TN; and Jeff Rathermel, Minneapolis, MN.

A gala reception will be held, Thursday, September 3, 2015, 6-9 p.m. at and The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur at 1 E Court Square #110, Decatur, GA 30030. Ley’s artist books The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife and Snow Glow will be on display at the Art Institute of Atlanta through Friday, September 18.

Official prize winners for the 2015 exhibition include:

  • 1st Award: Macey Ley, Atlanta, GA – The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife
  • 2nd Award: Ania Gilmore, Lexington, MA – Library at Alexandria
  • 3rd Award: Lindsey Dunnagan, Ft. Worth, TX – Mapping the Intangible and Wax Chrysallis (joint award)
  • Merit Award: Barbara Tetenbaum, Portland, OR – Diagram of Wind

Snow GlowMacey Ley announced today that two of her books were selected for exhibition at the The Book as Art: No Jacket Required, a featured exhibition of the AJC-Decatur Book Festival in Decatur, Georgia. Sponsored by the Decatur Arts Alliance and The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, The Book as Art will be on view in the gallery of The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur at 1 E Court Square #110, Decatur, GA 30030.

The AJC Decatur Book Festival is the largest independent book festival in the country. Since it began in 2006, more than 1,000 world-class authors and hundreds of thousands festival-goers have enjoyed book signings, author readings, panel discussions, an interactive children’s area, live music, parades, cooking demonstrations, poetry slams, writing workshops, and more.

The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife and Snow Glow will be on display at the Art Institute of Atlanta from Friday, July 24, through Friday, September 18. An evening gala reception and keynote address will be held at the Gallery on September 4. The time has yet to be announced.

The Decatur Arts Alliance (DAA), in conjunction with the gallery of The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, is bringing the first juried exhibition of artists’ books to the AJC-Decatur Book Festival — the largest independent book festival in the country.

Macey Ley announced today that her single-edition book TV Dinner for Zombies was selected for exhibition at the The Book as Art: 21st Century Meets Tradition, a featured exhibition of the AJC-Decatur Book Festival in Decatur, Georgia. Sponsored by the Decatur Arts Alliance and The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, The Book as Art will be on view in the gallery of The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur at 6600 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30328.
