The Belt of Orion's Never Wife - detailATLANTA – August 30, 2015

The Decatur Arts Alliance (DAA) is honoring Macey Ley’s The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife with first place prize at The Book as Art 3.0: No Jacket Required, a featured exhibition of the AJC-Decatur Book Festival in Decatur, Georgia. The exhibition – showcasing artist books from more than 30 U.S.-based artists – offers new interpretations of the ancient concept of books and questions 21st century book form and format. Jurors include Margot Ecke, Athens, GA; Arlyn Ende, Sewanee, TN; and Jeff Rathermel, Minneapolis, MN.

A gala reception will be held, Thursday, September 3, 2015, 6-9 p.m. at and The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur at 1 E Court Square #110, Decatur, GA 30030. Ley’s artist books The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife and Snow Glow will be on display at the Art Institute of Atlanta through Friday, September 18.

Official prize winners for the 2015 exhibition include:

  • 1st Award: Macey Ley, Atlanta, GA – The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife
  • 2nd Award: Ania Gilmore, Lexington, MA – Library at Alexandria
  • 3rd Award: Lindsey Dunnagan, Ft. Worth, TX – Mapping the Intangible and Wax Chrysallis (joint award)
  • Merit Award: Barbara Tetenbaum, Portland, OR – Diagram of Wind

Snow GlowMacey Ley announced today that two of her books were selected for exhibition at the The Book as Art: No Jacket Required, a featured exhibition of the AJC-Decatur Book Festival in Decatur, Georgia. Sponsored by the Decatur Arts Alliance and The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, The Book as Art will be on view in the gallery of The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur at 1 E Court Square #110, Decatur, GA 30030.

The AJC Decatur Book Festival is the largest independent book festival in the country. Since it began in 2006, more than 1,000 world-class authors and hundreds of thousands festival-goers have enjoyed book signings, author readings, panel discussions, an interactive children’s area, live music, parades, cooking demonstrations, poetry slams, writing workshops, and more.

The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife and Snow Glow will be on display at the Art Institute of Atlanta from Friday, July 24, through Friday, September 18. An evening gala reception and keynote address will be held at the Gallery on September 4. The time has yet to be announced.

The Book as Art: 21st Century Meets Tradition

Presented by the Decatur Arts Alliance and the Art Institute of Atlanta – an Event of the 2013 AJC Decatur Book Festival

The Decatur Arts Alliance (DAA), in conjunction with the gallery of The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, is bringing the first juried exhibition of artists’ books to the AJC-Decatur Book Festival — the largest independent book festival in the country.

Macey Ley’s single-edition book TV Dinner for Zombies will be on display at the Gallery at The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur at One West Court Square, Suite 110 through September 20, 2013 (gallery hours below).

Macey Ley announced today that two of her artist books were chosen for a group exhibition at the 6th Annual Jurried Artist Book Show at the Savannah College of Art and Design Book Arts Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia. Her books TV Dinner for Zombies and Women Hold Up Half the Sky will be on display at at the college’s library at 1600 Peachtree Street through July 15, 2013.

 

Voting to Open at ArtFields, Lake City, SC

Voting for the ArtFields People’s Choice award will open April 19. Macey Ley’s painting Almost could win several awards, including the People’s Choice award worth $25,00.

Voters must register in person at the ArtFields Hub at the Rob at 245 South Church Street. Voting is secure with options to vote on-site, by mail or online.

If you are in the Lake City, SC area during April 19-28, stop by the festival and register to vote for Macey’s work – or any other work you feel should be honored.

You can view her work in person at Table 118 located at 118 East Main Street. And while you are there, you can try the much anticipated French-influenced Southern cuisine by award-winning chef Carlos Brown, Executive Chef of both Table 118 and MoMo’s Bistro in Columbia.

Macey Ley will be exhibiting at ArtFields in the historic community of Lake City, South Carolina, April 19-28, 2013. Her painting Almost will be on display at the city’s newest restaurant Table 118, an upscale eatery and wine bar specializing in French-influenced Southern cuisine located at 118 East Main St. ArtFields is a 10-day celebration of arts (the largest of its kind in the Southeast), featuring live music, Southern food, dancing, and art. Cash prizes totaling $100,000 will be awarded to winning artists who are determined by votes from ArtFields attendees and a juried panel.
