ATLANTA, GA:  Macey Ley’s sculpture The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife is up for bid during the 2016 Hambidge Art Auction + Field Experiment Gala. Co-presented by the Goat Farm Arts Center, the gala will take place on Saturday, April 23. Stimulating the senses, triggering new thoughts and offering moments of contemplation, this year’s event will yield a tangled rhythm of inspiring experiences, including visual and performing art, installations and craft food and drinks.

Sponsors, patrons, hosts and VIP ticket holders will have the first opportunity to purchase $100 Works on Paper, the first glimpse of the Field Experiment finalists’ projects, and will enjoy a special selection of tasty food and craft cocktails, including an outdoor cooking extravaganza by Kevin Rathbun.

Auctioned artwork is available for in-person viewing at the Goat Farm Art Center. Guests can bid for their favorite works online through their mobile devices.

Macey Ley Exhibiting at Texas National

Coupled and Inseparable

NAGOGDOCHES, TX:  Macey Ley’s sculptural artist book Coupled and Inseparable has been selected for exhibition at the Texas National at the Ed & Gwen Cole Art Center sponsored by Stephen F. Austin State University. The Texas National 2016 juror is Abelardo Morell who selected works by artists from 29 states. The exhibition will be on display April 9 – June 11, 2016, with a reception on Saturday, April 9, 6-8 p.m.

The Ed & Gwen Cole Art Center is located at the Old Opera House, 329 E. Main Street, Nagagdoches, Texas. Gallery hours are Tues.-Fri. 12:30 – 5 p.m. and Sat. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Decatur Arts Alliance (DAA) is honoring Macey Ley’s The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife with first place prize at The Book as Art 3.0: No Jacket Required, a featured exhibition of the AJC-Decatur Book Festival in Decatur, Georgia. The exhibition – showcasing artist books from more than 30 U.S.-based artists – offers new interpretations of the ancient concept of books and questions 21st century book form and format. Jurors include Margot Ecke, Athens, GA; Arlyn Ende, Sewanee, TN; and Jeff Rathermel, Minneapolis, MN.

A gala reception will be held, Thursday, September 3, 2015, 6-9 p.m. at and The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur at 1 E Court Square #110, Decatur, GA 30030. Ley’s artist books The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife and Snow Glow will be on display at the Art Institute of Atlanta through Friday, September 18.

MACEY LEY EXHIBITS AT THE BOOK AS ART: No Jacket Required

Snow GlowMacey Ley announced today that two of her books were selected for exhibition at the The Book as Art: No Jacket Required, a featured exhibition of the AJC-Decatur Book Festival in Decatur, Georgia. Sponsored by the Decatur Arts Alliance and The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, The Book as Art will be on view in the gallery of The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur at 1 E Court Square #110, Decatur, GA 30030.

The AJC Decatur Book Festival is the largest independent book festival in the country. Since it began in 2006, more than 1,000 world-class authors and hundreds of thousands festival-goers have enjoyed book signings, author readings, panel discussions, an interactive children’s area, live music, parades, cooking demonstrations, poetry slams, writing workshops, and more.

The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife and Snow Glow will be on display at the Art Institute of Atlanta from Friday, July 24, through Friday, September 18. An evening gala reception and keynote address will be held at the Gallery on September 4. The time has yet to be announced.

Women have experienced the sensation of being bound throughout the ages. Often seen as a form of torture and a way to oppress, women have learned to use bondage to their advantage. Pleasure through pain is nothing new, but that some women cower while others defy is something that only she can explain.

Words Have No Wings

Materials: Acrylic and serigraphy on canvas
Each: 55.12 in. x 27.56 in.

In Words Have No Wings birds play a prominent role — their restless nature and need for order, their need for boundless sky and secure resting places. The birds are in flight as they have escaped, but ironically, they are caught in a whirlwind created by their own flight.
