ATLANTA – August 30, 2015

The Decatur Arts Alliance (DAA) is honoring Macey Ley’s The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife with first place prize at The Book as Art 3.0: No Jacket Required, a featured exhibition of the AJC-Decatur Book Festival in Decatur, Georgia. The exhibition – showcasing artist books from more than 30 U.S.-based artists – offers new interpretations of the ancient concept of books and questions 21st century book form and format. Jurors include Margot Ecke, Athens, GA; Arlyn Ende, Sewanee, TN; and Jeff Rathermel, Minneapolis, MN.

A gala reception will be held, Thursday, September 3, 2015, 6-9 p.m. at and The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur at 1 E Court Square #110, Decatur, GA 30030. Ley’s artist books The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife and Snow Glow will be on display at the Art Institute of Atlanta through Friday, September 18.

Macey Ley announced today that two of her books were selected for exhibition at the The Book as Art: No Jacket Required, a featured exhibition of the AJC-Decatur Book Festival in Decatur, Georgia. Sponsored by the Decatur Arts Alliance and The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur, The Book as Art will be on view in the gallery of The Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur at 1 E Court Square #110, Decatur, GA 30030.

The AJC Decatur Book Festival is the largest independent book festival in the country. Since it began in 2006, more than 1,000 world-class authors and hundreds of thousands festival-goers have enjoyed book signings, author readings, panel discussions, an interactive children’s area, live music, parades, cooking demonstrations, poetry slams, writing workshops, and more.

The Belt of Orion’s Never Wife and Snow Glow will be on display at the Art Institute of Atlanta from Friday, July 24, through Friday, September 18. An evening gala reception and keynote address will be held at the Gallery on September 4. The time has yet to be announced.

ATLANTA, GA: Macey Ley’s installation Athena 2000 will be on display in the traveling exhibition Intertwined: Contemporary Southeastern Fiber Arts sponsored by the Southeastern Fiber Arts Alliance.

Athena 2000 is an interactive suspended installation for contemplation and exploration. Viewers are encouraged to enter and inhabit the phone booth-sized one-person room where they will find traces of the lives of others mended and quilted together.

The exhibition will showcase a wide range of content, material, and techniques with the common threads of craftsmanship and passion. Juror Dot Moye selected entries from a large number of regional applicants, including emerging artist Cassidy Russell, to be included in the show, along with works by invited artists curated by Ray Pierotti.

Intertwined opens January 13, 2015, at the Hudgens Center for the Arts in Atlanta, Georgia, and will travel to three other Georgia venues throughout the year, concluding September 16, 2015.

DENVER, CO: Macey Ley’s artist book Circumstantial Gravity will be on display at Abecedarian Gallery in the exhibition Coptically Bound this autumn. The exhibition features artist’s books that are bound in the Coptic style.

Artworks will be on display September 18 through November 1, 2014, with an opening reception on Friday, September 19, 6-8 p.m.

Abecedarian Gallery is located in Denver’s Arts District on Santa Fe: 910 Santa Fe #101, Denver, CO, 80204. The gallery presents local and national artists working across multiple disciplines with an emphasis on contemporary book arts and works on paper. ASHEVILLE, NC: Macey Ley announced today that her artist book I Am Not will be on display at Asheville BookWorks in BookOpolis 2014: Printmade Artist’s Books.

The exhibition features artist’s books made with original handprint processes, including relief, intaglio, letterpress, planographic, stencil, and collography printing methods. One of the goals of the exhibition is to move the printed art object off the wall and into the hands of a user/viewer/reader, creating a different experience of both art object and book object.

Artworks will be on display September 19 – November 30, 2014, with an opening reception on Friday, September 19, 6-9 p.m.

Asheville BookWorks is located at 428 1/2 Haywood Road, West Asheville, NC. Gallery hours are Tue.-Fri. 1-5 p.m. and Sat. 1-4 p.m.

ATLANTA, GA: Macey Ley’s installation All the Places I’ve Never Been and Some I Have will be exhibited at the Breman Museum in PEACE: What does it mean to you?

The exhibition features the photographic series A Peace of My Mind by John Noltner and an interactive peace wall. Ley’s one-person room is part of the meditation section that includes instructions on how to find a peaceful mind by Eleanora Lipton, Founding Director of Atlanta Polarity & Intuitive Yoga Center.

Artworks will be on display June 22 – October 5, 2014, with an member’s preview on Sunday, June 22, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Atlanta, GA – Macey Ley’s latest artist book Circumstantial Gravity took first place and a purchase award in the 7th Annual Artist Book Symposium sponsored by the Savannah College of Art and Design. The book, along with I Am Not and Sweet Surrender, will be on display at the ACA Library Artist Book Gallery in SCAD Atlanta through the end of July 2014.

SCAD’s ACA library in Atlanta owns a premier collection of over 2,100 artists’ books. It includes works from more than 1,000 renown artists, including Robbin Ami Silverberg, Julie Chen, Karen Hammer, Lois Morrison and Kara Walker. Guest may make reservations to view selections from the collection at any time.

Atlanta, GA – You Are Here thesis exhibition features the culminating achievements of Savannah College of Art and Design MFA candidate Macey Ley. Her artwork includes whole-body installations and artist books that investigate the connections among memory, place and identity. She uses everyday objects and myths as a starting point, creating experiences that both invite and challenge viewers to examine how memory of places and beliefs in myths shape identity.

Ley completed her BFA in photography at the University of New Mexico, has run creative departments in advertising and design, and currently freelances as an event producer. Her work has been exhibited in the United States and Italy.

You Are Here will be on display at Further Art gallery in Atlanta, Georgia, May 13-17, 2014 with a reception Friday, May 16 from 6-9 p.m. Additional gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday 12-3 p.m.

Atlanta, GA – Macey Ley will be exhibiting in Something Else this week at Further Art in Atlanta, Georgia. The exhibition speaks of the collective hunger for otherness. Each artist’s work investigates the longing for what is unreachable and the rare pauses of deep connection in the present moment.

Something Else will be on display at Further Art March 11-14, 2014 with a reception Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 6-9 p.m. The exhibition will present works on paper, sculpture, painting, motion media and installation.

WILMINGTON, NC: Macey Ley announced today that her installation Athena 2000 will be exhibited at the CAB Gallery at the University of North Carolina Wilmington in Mending: New Uses for Old Traditions.

The exhibition features work created with or about traditional media or representations of women and is being held in conjunction with the 2014 Southeastern Women’s Studies Association conference hosted by UNCW’s Women’s Studies and Resource Center. Artworks will be on display February 27 – April 24, 2014, with an opening reception on Friday, March 28, 5:30-7 p.m.

The CAB Gallery is located on the UNCW campus at 601 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC, 28403. Gallery hours are Mon.-Fri. 12-4 p.m..
